GREENFISH
DIGITAL
A Women-Led AgriTech Initiative — combining solar-powered aquaponics, digital technology, and market access in Turkana County, Kenya.
The
GreenFish
Initiative
GreenFish Digital is a women-led agritech initiative by Eaglestone Africa Foundation that combines solar-powered aquaponics, digital technology, and market access to improve food security, nutrition, and women's economic empowerment in Turkana County, Kenya.
Over 24 months, the project will establish 50 women-led aquaponics hubs, train 1,000 women in climate-smart agriculture and digital skills, increase household incomes by at least 40%, and improve nutrition for over 10,000 community members.
By integrating innovation with sustainable farming, GreenFish Digital will strengthen women's livelihoods while building climate-resilient communities.

The Challenge in
Turkana County
Kenya's arid and semi-arid lands (ASALs) continue to face recurrent drought, water scarcity, food insecurity, and the effects of climate change. Turkana County is among the most affected, with women and children bearing the greatest burden due to limited access to nutritious food and sustainable livelihoods.
Women farmers rely largely on traditional farming methods that are vulnerable to prolonged dry seasons. They also face challenges including limited access to technology, finance, market information, and reliable buyers, resulting in low productivity and reduced incomes.
GreenFish Digital builds on existing progress by integrating solar-powered aquaponics with digital technologies, mobile learning, and market linkages to help women increase food production, improve nutrition, and build sustainable agribusinesses.

Women in Turkana County face persistent challenges caused by climate change, prolonged drought, limited access to technology, and poor market linkages. These barriers reduce agricultural productivity, household incomes, and access to nutritious food — particularly for pregnant and lactating women and children under five.
Why GreenFish Digital?
GreenFish Digital addresses the urgent need for climate-smart, technology-driven solutions that improve women's livelihoods, food security, and nutrition in Turkana County. By combining solar-powered aquaponics with digital training, market access, and financial inclusion, the project equips women with the tools to build sustainable agribusinesses and increase their incomes.
The project aligns with the SheConnects Fund's focus on women-led digital innovation by using technology to create economic opportunities, strengthen climate resilience, and improve community well-being. Building on an initiative already launched in Turkana, GreenFish Digital is well positioned to scale its impact and reach more women across the region.
Empowering Women
for Climate Resilience
To empower women in Turkana County through climate-smart aquaponics and digital innovation, improving food security and sustainable livelihoods.
Proposed Solution
GreenFish Digital is a women-led agritech platform that combines solar-powered aquaponics with digital technology to improve food security, nutrition, and women's economic empowerment. The project will establish 50 smart aquaponics hubs managed by women's groups, with IoT sensors monitoring production and a mobile platform providing training via SMS, USSD, and WhatsApp.
Four Transformative Goals
Establish 50 women-led solar-powered aquaponics hubs.
Train 1,000 women in climate-smart farming and digital skills.
Increase household incomes by 40% through improved market access.
Improve nutrition for 10,000 community members through sustainable food production.
Five Integrated
Technology Components
Solar-Powered Aquaponics Hubs
50 smart hubs managed by women's groups — combining fish cultivation with plant growing using minimal water resources.
IoT Sensor Monitoring
Real-time farm monitoring and production data via IoT sensors tracking water quality, temperature, and yield metrics.
Mobile Training Platform
Training delivered via SMS, USSD, and WhatsApp — accessible to women with basic mobile phones in low-connectivity areas.
Digital Marketplace
Direct connections between women producers and buyers, improving market access, increasing incomes, and reducing post-harvest losses.
Digital Production Records
Digital recordkeeping and real-time production updates enabling data-driven farm management and financial reporting.
